As a manager it is your responsibility to keep things running. It’s as simple as that – one could think. You make sure that day-to-day business is taken care of, timings and budget plans are adhered to and project goals are achieved. Routines and established procedures take weight off your shoulders by making reflection and decision processes redundant.
But these routines do not only take off the pressure – they also tend to make us stick to old habits. This can restrict your leeway and have an adverse effect, especially when it comes to changes requiring a different perspective of the situation and an alternative strategic approach (for example in relation to promotions, job changes, restructuring, mergers and new market requirements).
Our role in the coaching process is to – metaphorically speaking – lead you a few steps off the beaten track you seem to be following. Together with you we develop fresh perspectives of your situation. As a result of this process you will benefit from practical, alternative strategies, solutions and paths leading you to success. At the beginning of the coaching process we jointly define an objective. And the achievement of this objective is what we measure our performance against at the end.
